Pickleball UK returns to the Liverpool Indoor Tennis in June for a two day pickleball tournament that promises to deliver some great action.
Taking place on Saturday on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th of June, using the Franklin X40 balls, on an acrylic surface, the play is going to be awesome.
With 3 age categories – Open, 45 + and 60 +. Along with 3 skill levels – 3.0, 3.5 and 4.0 +, there is something for everyone.

Pickleball is still a relatively new sport in Liverpool, but its growth in the city reflects the rapid rise of the game across the UK.
The sport itself was invented in 1965 on Bainbridge Island, Washington, USA, by Joel Pritchard, Bill Bell, and Barney McCallum. It combined elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis, using paddles and a perforated plastic ball.
In the UK, pickleball clubs first began appearing around 2011, with participation steadily increasing nationwide. The Lawn Tennis Association estimates there are now hundreds of venues and thousands of active players across Britain.
Liverpool has embraced the sport more recently as part of this national growth. One of the city’s newest dedicated groups, Pickleball Liverpool, launched in 2024 and quickly expanded sessions across venues including Calderstones School, Gateacre School, and Greenbank Sports Academy.
The wider Merseyside area has also seen increased interest in racket sports and social community-based activities, helping pickleball gain traction among players of all ages. New clubs, social sessions, and tournaments are continuing to emerge as awareness of the sport grows.
Liverpool has a long sporting heritage, particularly in racket sports. Historic venues such as the Liverpool Racquet Club helped establish the city’s tradition of court sports dating back to the 19th century.
Today, pickleball in Liverpool is still in its early stages compared to some parts of the UK, but the sport is growing rapidly thanks to local clubs, community sessions, and national tours bringing tournaments and exposure to the region.
